At the beginning 2015 the kids of the Free Minds Association of Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD) they carry out a series of recreational activities with asylum seeker children hosted in the city. Strong friendships are born and when the details of the journeys made by the boys to reach Europe come out, the people of Lignano are stunned by such difficulty and cruelty.

Three of them, Tommaso, Alessandro Sandri and Paolo Tavani, driven by the desire and need to see with their own eyes what is happening they decide to undertake an unusual journey. In October of 2015 they depart from Friuli to retrace the Balkan route backwards until they reach Syria. With them a tent, a hi-tech stove, some colored markers and a thirty meter roll of paper in which everyone can express themselves freely.

I'm in Spielfeld when Austria raises the barricades, in Idomeni when Macedonia only lets in Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans and in Lesbos in the vortex of landings.

At every point they touch humanity in all its forms, in all its extremes. The thirty meter roll of paper is unrolled in every place and for the three boys it acts as a catalyst of emotions and without any barrier makes them interact with the people they meet.

For migrants, mostly children, it represents the possibility of expressing themselves freely, offering them a sweet escape from the daily drama. The journey ends on the Turkish-Syrian border after three months and almost four thousand km travelled.
